Vanchi - Our Company

Mission Statement

VANCHI’s mission is to be the Nappy Bag of choice for style savvy Mums who refuse to compromise on anything!

Our Story

Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.
Ralph Waldo Emerson

VANCHI is the cumulative result of two genuine dilemmas faced by its founder Sarah Van Bentum in 2005, when she discovered she was expecting twin boys. First came the growing realisation that the life of her family of four was about to be turned upside down, including her carefully plotted career in teaching, followed closely by the ensuing and epic quest to find the perfect nappy bag! VANCHI’s beginnings were humble, yet exhilarating!

VANCHI aspires to create distinctive pieces of luxury for today’s mum. They take pride in producing unique and versatile nappy bag designs – their collection includes genuine and faux leather options, a range of sizes, colours and styles to suit every taste. All VANCHI nappy bags come with a bottle holder, dummy safe, wetpack, change mat, key clip, multiple pocket options and of course their signature dummy charm lovingly attached to each VANCHI nappy bag.

A special thank you belongs to my mother and father in law Franciscus & Johanna Van Bentum, who both recently passed away 2009/2010. Their support gave VANCHI the wings to fly.

Team Biographies

Founder & Designer – General Manager

Sarah

As a Bachelor of Education graduate of Sydney University and with a rapid climb up the education ladder behind her, developing a range of must have nappy bags was not on top of Sarah’s bucket list! However a surprise twin pregnancy in 2005, a timely gap in the market and an ensuing entrepreneurial seizure, resulted in the birth of VANCHI. Sarah’s intuition paid off with her launch of a distinctive designer nappy bag range in 2006. Armed with a keen eye for fashion, Sarah keeps Mums on trend by releasing seasonal ranges and updates for mums who refuse to compromise. Sarah’s role as VANCHI General Manager keeps her industrious, as does creating quality memories with her four boys and husband John. Sarah enjoys the fruits of her labour, when she catches a glimpse of a VANCHI signature dummy charm swinging from the nappy bag of its proud new owner.

PA to the General Manager

Jess

After studying Hospitality Management at Williams Business College, North Sydney, Jess worked in various administrative hotel roles over several years. Marriage in 2008 led to a career change, with an exciting opportunity at the local radio station where Jess further diversified her skills. Jess comes to VANCHI after the birth of her first child, excited by the prospect of combining her love of motherhood and handbags! As PA to the General Manager, Jess enjoys the variety and challenge of keeping Sarah and the team organised, scheduled, and on task while maintaining a sense of innovation and fun!

Special Projects

Tammy

Educated at University of New England receiving a Bachelor of Science, Tammy’s organisational skills, attention to detail and ability to multitask make her an invaluable asset to VANCHI as Special Projects Manager. Tammy’s first nappy bag was received as a gift more than a decade ago – a hideous turquoise polyester bag. A self-confessed handbag lover Tammy is forever grateful to VANCHI for the growth of her gorgeous nappy bag collection – she is usually first in line to try out potential VANCHI designs and can often be heard saying “Why stop at one?” When Tammy is not working at VANCHI, she is a regular volunteer in the nocturnal house at Taronga Zoo, she enjoys spending time with her husband, children and pets as well as sneaking moments to herself in a hammock with a good book.

Sales & Human Resources

Carolyn

Prior to joining VANCHI Carolyn has had experience in sales, sales recruitment, PR and staff training. Carolyn was educated at University of Wollongong and completed a Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in accounting and finance. She spent several years working in PR and conducting training for a non-profit organisation, before unexpectedly landing in a sales recruitment role. After a successful time in this cutthroat field, Carolyn took time off to raise a young family. On joining VANCHI Carolyn has returned to the workforce to manage their Sales team, assist in recruitment and manage customers throughout the Illawarra region.

Child Rescue – World Vision

Protecting children from suffering, danger and abuse

What is it?

Child Rescue raises funds to provide rehabilitation and support for children who are at risk of, or have been the victims of exploitation and abuse. It also supports children who are made vulnerable by terrible circumstances, and who cannot be reached by Child Sponsorship.

Inspired by motherhood, the VANCHI team recognise what a special gift a child is. In turn, they take their social responsibility where children are concerned very seriously, so a percentage of all VANCHI products sold will go directly towards working with children, through the work of Child Rescue, a division of World Vision working to combat child slavery.
