Hospital Bag Guide for Dad

Hospital Bag Packing List for Dad

If you're here you must be about to become a father. Big congratulations! What an exciting time! Let me keep this short, sweet and simple for you, so you can get packing. Chances are,  your baby’s mumma is packed and ready to go at a moment's notice and you still need to get packing. If you're unsure of what you need, I have put together a helpful list of everything my partner found essential for our two births.

First and foremost, a good sturdy bag is needed, with compartments to keep everything organized and with easy access. Most guys have a backpack of some description but if your beaten up old school, travel or sports bag is looking a bit too shabby then you may be in the market for a new one. Have a look at VANCHI’s Frankie, or the Emmy. Both of these are  large capacity backpacks capable of handily storing a good amount of items. They have multiple compartments, and are very versatile. You can continue to use them day to day as a nappy bag, work bag or for weekends away.  The Emmy is slightly larger and The Frankie has extra comfort with its padded backpack straps.

Here’s what you'll need to pack

  • Change of clothing
  • Warmer clothing; jumper/ tracksuit/socks ( hospitals can get cold )
*I recommend a jumper that opens up at the chest so you can easily do skin on skin with your baby
  • Swimmers ( for bath or shower support during labor )
  • Basic Toiletries; toothbrush, paste, soap, deodorant, anything personal
  • Camera, empty SD card and charger
  • Phone and charger
  • Water Bottle
  • Snacks
  • Any labor tools you and your partner might have spoken about ( massage tools, oils etc )
  • Any personal items for you

Try not to leave packing to the last minute as due dates are only estimated. It’s best to be prepared - I recommend getting your bag ready and leaving it next to hers at least 4 weeks prior to your due date. This will really help her relax in the last few weeks knowing you're both ready to go. Remember labor is spontaneous and can happen any moment, any day in the final trimester!

I hope this read has helped get you inspired to pack and be organised and prepared. Congratulations on your exciting journey into parenthood!
